My New Year's Resolutions for 2019

Happy New Year everyone and welcome back to the blog! I hope you all had a lot of fun last night and had a fantastic holiday season. To kick off the New Year, I decided to go a little personal with this blog post and share with you guys my New Year’s resolutions for 2019. Whenever we here the phrase, “New Year, New Me,” the most common resolutions people set up for the new year are weight loss, better grades or achieving a higher GPA, intentions of getting a promotion at work and other achievements that make a person feel “good,” but not truly making them happy or change them for the better. I myself have been guilty of making those resolutions, which is why this year I decided to create a list of resolutions that will change me in more ways than one, and make me into a better version of myself.

My New Year’s Resolutions for 2019:

  1. Be less fearful

This is my number one resolution for so many reasons, but the main reason why I would like to be less fearful in 2019 is because fear, for the longest time, has played a negative role in my life. It has held me back from experiencing new things, stopped me from enjoying my youth numerous times, has gotten in the way of me reaching my full potential and at times, has made me feel not myself. I would like to change all that in 2019, starting with letting go and kicking fear to the curb!

  2. Accept my stutter

Accepting my flaws is what I hope to accomplish in 2019. Ever since I was little, I’ve had a speech impediment, and it has controlled my confidence for a long period of time. Whenever I had to present in class, have a conversation with one of my peers or do the simplest of tasks and give somebody my name or contact information (when I’m shopping, working, etc.), I would stutter, and every time I revealed my stutter to the world, I felt embarrassed, humiliated, small and ashamed to be me. Lately, I’ve been able to cope with stutter, but there are times I wish I could talk “normal” or “talk like everybody else.” What I recently discovered is that there is no such thing as normal, and that all the imperfections every human being on this planet has is beautiful, and they should never feel ashamed to be who they are, including me. That’s why in 2019, I am going to accept my stutter, along with the other flaws that make up who I am.

  3. Maintain a healthy balanced diet/regular workout routine

Now that I have reached my weight loss goal, I plan to maintain it by continuing to eat healthy and exercise regularly. While I still ate healthy and worked out whenever I could, there were moments where my schedule got in the way of my routine, and that’s something I definitely want to leave in 2018. Eating right and exercising regularly has not only helped me improve my physical health but my mental health as well. When I began my weight loss journey, I created a brand new lifestyle that has impacted my life in so many positive ways, and now that I’m where I want to be with my weight and health, I would like to keep it that way by maintaining a healthy balanced diet and a regular workout routine.

  4. Stop holding grudges

Believe it or not, I hold grudges. I’ll admit that when someone has done or said something to upset me or the people I care about, I hold a huge grudge against that person for a very long time, and the only one who gets hurt in the end is me. Grudges do nothing but take you down and stop you from being your best self, and I do not wish to continue that cycle in 2019. For the new year, I am going to leave the past behind, and no longer hold grudges to the people who have hurt me.

  5. Work even harder

I have achieved a lot during 2018 due to all the work hard I’ve invested, but I have more plans and ambitions for my future, which is why I plan to work even harder in 2019. Over the past year, I thought a lot about my dreams and shared them with my family and friends, but what I realized is that I haven’t been putting much effort into pursuing them, which is why I’m still at first base. Well not anymore, because in 2019, I am going to work even harder to get what I want and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come in the upcoming year.

Thank you to everyone who has been following my blog for the past year because if it weren’t for you guys, Pink No.5 wouldn’t be here today and I couldn’t be more thankful for all your love and support. I hope all of you have a Happy New Year and will stop by the blog again soon for upcoming posts! :)

Love,

Welcome back to the blog, everyone! For today’s blog post, I wanted to share with you guys my gift guide for last minute Christmas shopping. I decided to create a gift guide for this year’s holiday season for two reasons: it’s hard for us buy presents on time (due to our hectic schedules), and I believe that a gift guide listing the perfect go-to’s will save you both time and stress. When creating this gift guide, I selected the items that are common gifts for young women and girls, and are at an affordable price as well, so please browse through this post and find the perfect guide for your loved one today. If I don’t blog before the holidays are over, I would like to take this time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thanks for stopping by! :)

How I decorated my room for this year's holiday season

Pictures are down below

Happy Saturday, everyone! Now that final exam season is over, it gives me the pleasure to say that I have more time to blog and stay connected with you guys again (as well as being able to breathe and not losing anymore sleep than I already have). For today’s blog post, I wanted to share with you guys how I decorated my bedroom for this year’s holiday season. There are a number of things I love about the holidays, and Christmas decorations is definitely one of them. I decorate my bedroom for Christmas every year but this year was a little different because I got a Christmas tree and I couldn’t be more in love with it. What I love the most about Christmas decorations in my room is that not only do they make my room look beautiful and festive, but they put me in the Christmas mood whenever I go to sleep and when I wake up in the next morning. The holiday season only comes once a year so I want to be in the Christmas mood for as much as I can. Since my room is pink with grey/silver furniture, I bought decorations that color coordinate my room as well as being festive so I picked up my decorations from At Home, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and Anthropologie. I hope you guys enjoy this post and thanks for stopping by! :)

Hey guys! I’m sorry I’m late with this blog post, the craziness of final exam season is not doing any favors for my schedule. To start off the week, I wanted to share with you guys the perfect outfit for holiday gift shopping. This ensemble is perfect to wear for endless hours of shopping while still looking very chic. For my holiday present shopping day, I decided to layer up and throw on a teddy coat with a red plaid scarf, black jeans, over-the-knee boots, black Gucci belt, ivory bodysuit and a burgundy bag from Kate Spade (out of stock). Teddy coats and jackets are really in this season and I can see why; they’re SUPER warm and cozy. They would also make great gifts for this holiday season, which is a bonus. I hope you guys enjoyed this blog post and I hope you all have a great week. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Hey everyone and welcome back to the blog! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving this year, my family and I continued our tradition and had dinner at my house. My mom decorated the kitchen table with the cutest decorations from HomeGoods and Target and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. After we stuffed out faces with food, we had dessert and played Ellen Degeneres’ game, “Ellen’s Game of Games,” on my sister’s phone. Let me know in the comments what you guys did for Thanksgiving. :)

Also, since Black Friday weekend is here, I decided to create a little list of Black Friday deals from some of my favorite stores for you guys to have for when you’re shopping for yourself, or for your loved ones. I hope everyone has a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week and loving our first snowfall as much as I do! For today’s blog post, I wanted to share with you guys what I wore last Sunday for lunch and a movie in Birmingham. My mom, Isabella (my little sister) and I went out to downtown Birmingham to have lunch at La Strada Cafe, and watched “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” at Emagine Palladum. After we got done eating, we had a lot of time left before the film started so we walked around the city for a little bit. On Sunday, I wore this mock neck tee from Free People with my black Topshop jeans, Vince Camuto booties, Burberry scarf, Gucci bag and camel beret. This look is perfect for a Sunday night stroll through the city, and you can find pieces similar to mine from affordable stores such as Forever21, Zara, and H&M. Have a great snow day everyone and thanks for stopping by! :)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Happy Halloween, everyone! To celebrate one of the spookiest holidays of the year, I wanted to share with you guys I recipe I found for pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I found the recipe from Emily Jackson’s style blog, Ivory Lane, and they are super easy to bake and very delicious! Each cookie is under 80 calories (which is a bonus if you want to eat sweets and not feel guilty :) ) and if you’re having a Halloween party tonight and need to make something fast and easy, I highly recommend baking these cookies. Here’s the recipe:

  • One box of spice cake mix

  • One can of pumpkin puree

  • One bag of milk chocolate chips

  • A dash of cinnamon (optional)

Once you mix all the ingredients together in a big glass bowl, you scoop them out with a cookie dough scooper, place each scoop on your baking tray with parchment paper and bake them for 15-17 minutes at 350 degrees. You can also bake these cookies for Thanksgiving, or any party during the holiday season. I hope you guys enjoyed this post and have a safe, and fun Halloween!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to Pink No.5! To kick off the weekend, I wanted to share with you guys one of my favorite fall outfits for on the go. Yesterday, I had class in the morning and plans with my mom for lunch at Rochester Brunch House, so I wanted to wear something that was comfy but also chic. For class and lunch, I wore this pom pom sweater from RP Everyday Shop with my favorite pair of Topshop jeans. This sweater is so warm that I didn’t even need to bring a jacket to class that morning. Unfortunately, this sweater is sold out but you can find more amazing pieces on RP Everyday Shop, and I added something similar from the Everyday Shop down below for you guys to browse at (PSA: Rachel Parcell, blogger and owner of RP Everday Shop, is adding more stuff to her online store on the 29th :) ). I’m also wearing Steve Madden over-the-knee boots with my Tory Burch cross body, and to top it all of, I wore this beret from Nordstrom. My boots have a flat heel so they’re easy to walk in, and my cross body is perfect for on the go and for anyone who doesn’t carry a whole lot in your purse. The beret is just the cherry on top to this whole ensemble. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a great weekend!

Happy Friday! Sweater weather has finally arrived in Michigan and it’s time to bundle up. During an afternoon in Birmingham, I wore this chunky rolled up sweater from Topshop with my favorite pair of jeans that were also from Topshop. Topshop jeans fit very well and I highly recommend investing in a pair. With my sweater and jeans, I wore Vince Camuto cow-girl styled booties with my Gucci wallet on a chain. I topped my whole look off with a good old-fashioned red lip. You guys are going to see a lot more blog posts of me wearing a red lip (because it’s fall and the holidays are around the corner, so why not!?). This is one of my favorite ensembles for fall because it’s the perfect casual look if you’re going shopping, grabbing lunch or coffee, or running errands around town. Thanks for stopping by!

My favorite healthy snacks

IMG_0424.jpg

Hi everyone! For today’s blog post, I’m going to talk about my favorite healthy snacks. As some of you may know, I am a full-time college student, and when I get stressed out over homework and exams, I like to snack a little to ease my stress. Since it’s not easy trying to maintain a healthy diet when you’re going to school full-time, I looked into healthier alternatives to junk food that are not only better in nutrition and taste just as good as regular junk food, but don’t destroy your diet. To maintain a heathy diet, i’ll eat Skinny Pop, Larabars (banana chocolate chip is my favorite flavor), Pop Corners, Justin’s vanilla almond butter with celery or apples and Enlightened ice cream (I’ll eat half a pint one or two night a week and it tastes so much better than Halo Top). I don’t just eat these snacks because they’re healthy and delicious, but they’re also my go-to snacks and keep me satisfied throughout the school week. You can find them at your local grocery store. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Happy Friday! I hope everyone is having a great week. To kick off the weekend, I want to share with you guys the details of one of my favorite casual weekend outfits for fall. This top is from Free People and it’s super cozy and feminine. As soon as I seen it online, it went straight into my shopping bag. You can pair it with blacks jeans or regular blue denim. My jeans are from Topshop and they literally feel like leggings. They’re good if you are going out to dinner Saturday night and you want to look cute and be comfy at the same time. My booties are from Nordstrom and they’ve become the newest addition to my collection of staples. Not only do I wear these during the weekend but if I’m going to school and want to wear shoes that look great with outfit and will actually allow to walk around campus, I’ll slip these on. Last but not least, my bag is from Madewell. If you want a go-to bag, I highly suggest investing in one of their mini satchel bags. They’re a good investment because they’re made with real leather and they’re versatile, meaning that you can take this gem out with you to weekend dinners, brunches, tailgates (because it’s NFL and college football season), shopping trips and lunches. They come in bigger sizes and I might invest in for one school and work. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Hump Day! To make my room feel more cozy and at home, my mom decided to surprise me, and decorate my room will fall decorations from HomeGoods (she said she got the idea from another blogger’s Instagram story and wanted to get crafty). She decorated my room while I was at school, and it seriously one of the best surprises I’ve walked into. To decorate your room with cute fall decorations at a good price, I highly recommend stop by your nearest HomeGoods, Hobby Lobby or Marshall’s. Thanks for stopping by!

P.S.- The white pumpkin candle and the red candle are both from Bath & Body Works. After the my white candle was done, I decided to turn it into a candy jar. I’m also keeping the lights around my headboard until Christmas. :)

Happy Friday! Y’all thought I was kidding when I said I’m going to the cider mill this season? After seeing endless Instagram stories of cider and donuts, I had to pay a visit to Yates Cider Mill in Rochester Hills, MI. Since it was a cool fall day on Wednesday, I decided to wear something not too light but not too thick for my first cider mill trip of the season. You can browse through my outfit details below. Now that I’ve been to the cider mill, I have to plan my pumpkin patch picking session. I hope everyone is having a fun fall so far! Thanks for stopping by!

They’re not only essentials but staples that you will wear all season long, especially the mock neck top in the top left corner (I literally bought five of them before school started :) ). I can’t wait to wear all these trends when I go to the cider mill, frolic through the pumpkin patch while drinking apple cider and eating donuts! Happy fall, everyone!

On Sunday my family and I decided to have brunch at The Apparatus Room at the Detroit Foundation Hotel in downtown Detroit. The Detroit Foundation Hotel is a hotel that opened in May 2017, and it is just another beautiful addition to what makes Detroit so unique. Not only does it include two restaurants but a podcast room where you can rent to record a podcast (which is super cool because no other hotel has that).

When we walked in, I found out that the menu at The Apparatus Room is all American cuisine, which already sealed the deal for me since American food is my absolute favorite! The restaurant's interior design had a cozy, gorgeous modern style which made me feel right at home and hanging over the bar were these cool light fixtures that made the restaurant stand out.  For brunch, I got a latte with almond milk and a bowl of steel cut Irish cut oats.

After we ate, we decided to stop by For The Love of Sugar. For The Love of Sugar is a SUPER cute cafe in Detroit where they serve coffee, cake, macarons, and cookies, and I've meant to try this place ever since I've seen pictures of it all over my Instagram feed. The inside of the cafe is French themed with white and Tiffany blue interior, making it feel like you're in a scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's (had to throw in an Audrey Hepburn reference).  What's also cool about FTLOS is that they also serve gluten-free and vegan cakes for anyone who's allergic to gluten or doesn't eat foods with animal-based products. I got a fruity pebbles macaron but I'll to try their birthday cake latte and rainbow cake.  My Sunday in Detroit was super fun, and I can't wait to go back again to explore more of Midtown! :)

My favorite Skin Care Duo

C58F18DC-2376-4B4F-8131-CBB65E7F7AD7.JPG

Happy Saturday! I wanted to kick off the weekend by sharing with you guys my favorite skin care duo. I recently discovered these two amazing products that take good care of your skin. The product on the left is Mario Badescu's Glycolic Foaming Cleanser. What you do with the cleanser is switch out your regular facial cleanser with this three times a week and squeeze the product in your hand. Then, you massage it on your skin for about a minute or two and then rinse it off afterward. Not only does it smell nice and makes my skin look great but I've noticed it's been slowly getting rid of my blemishes, which to me is a huge win.

The pink bottle next to the Mario Badescu cleanser is the Saturday Night "rub-a-dub" Refining Peel Gel. I use this twice a week, and I am OBSESSED with it. It helps get rid of the impurities off my face and makes my skin feel so smooth after the application. After you wash and dry your face, you squeeze about a dime size of product in your hand and massage it on your skin for one minute. As you apply the product, you'll see that it peels dead skin off your skin, giving you the fresh face you need to have a great weekend!

Big Announcement: Starting Fresh

*Photo taken at "The Fed Community" in downtown Clarkston with the VSCO app*   Hi everyone! As a lot of you know, I haven't been so good at posting blog posts and keeping up with Pink No.5, and for the 500 millionth time, I am sorry. I genuinely apologize for lacking on posting, so I think it would be fair if I gave you guys an explanation. For starters, let the record show that I have an undeniable love and passion for fashion and will continue to blog about my style. But the more I blogged about what I wore; I started to become bored and got tired of it. That is why I have been absent since April. But that's why I am about to make this big announcement. Not only I'm going to blog more, but I am going to rebrand Pink No.5. What that means is that I am going to write on more things than just fashion. I am going to blog more about beauty, health, life, books, and all the art, food, and culture that surrounds metro Detroit.   What I've realized from blogging and social media is that I love all those other things too, so why wouldn't I talk about them? Which is why I plan to turn Pink No.5 into a lifestyle blog, and I couldn't be more excited to do so. Thank you to everyone who has been patient. Don't forget to visit my Instagram account (@alexacaccamo) for story highlights. Thanks again and I hope you guys will enjoy reading blog posts from the new Pink No.5!
